Moscow’s advantage on the Ukraine battlefield is waning, experts say. But President Donald Trump seems disinclined to ramp up pressure on the Kremlin to engage in ceasefire talks.
Russia’s battlefield strength in Ukraine has started to wane and it could run into serious shortages of manpower and weaponry by next year, even as President Donald Trump retreats from pressure on Moscow to end the war, according to senior U.S. and European officials and military experts.
In recent days, Trump appears to have abandoned the threat of harsh financial sanctions he repeated as recently as two weeks ago if Moscow doesn’t agree to a ceasefire with Kyiv. Instead, after a two-hour phone call Monday with Russian President Vladimir Putin, he touted potential new trade deals with Russia.
Rather than the U.S. leadership he promised, Trump has mused that he might just walk away and leave the negotiations to the Europeans — perhaps even the new pope — to sort out. His administration has not committed to additional military or financial aid to Ukraine.
But the timing for putting pressure on Moscow may be more advantageous now than at any point since the early days of the conflict, according to more than a dozen officials who discussed the current state of the war and the sensitive politics and diplomacy surrounding it, most on the condition of anonymity.
Absent a negotiated settlement or “robust” Western assistance, the war “probably will continue to slowly trend in Russia’s favor through 2025,” according to a U.S. Defense Intelligence Agency assessment presented to Congress 10 days ago by DIA Director Lt. Gen Jeffrey Krause. But Russian gains “are slowing and continue to come at the expense of high personnel and equipment losses.”
Since its February 2022 invasion, the DIA assessment said, Russia has “lost at least 10,000...s.”

If one played the scenario where Russia ends up economically destroyed....with Putin ‘out’, Russia could dissolve into a dozen-odd states and no longer being a adversary...leaving just China.
The US military industry probably would not want that type of ending.
America continues to embarrass itself as it continues to run an expired propaganda playbook less and less even believe. Boomers still watching cable news perhaps and of course leftists who live on a diet of cult-like deep state nonsense being the holdout exceptions. But for most people, it just further accentuates the decline of American institutions into farce. It’s all lies propping up a corrupt sick political elite.
The naivety in 47 is strong.

“The amount of naivety in the West is staggering, when it comes to dealing with Russia. The majority of Russians live their whole life by pushing others. It starts from childhood, permeates in every aspect of their lives and never ends. If you don’t push back, they will push you all eternity.
“Pushing back is no escalation, it is necessary. Sanctions are good, but they are not enough, let alone talks. You won’t convince Russians to make peace, you have to make them. Mikhail Khodorkovsky makes this point clear ...
“I’m always fascinated when people refuse to accept the simple answer: military force can only be stopped with military force.”
Number one, it’s a border war and will never end. Number two, if oil prices get down to $40-$50, Russia won’t be able to afford the war until the next Democrat is elected POTUS.
That’s a MAN, baby!!!

You, of all people, commenting on a source’s credibility is a hardy laugh, “REVEREND”-mommy.
Your sources are the Ukraine Ministry of Defense, talking points from Zelensky’s office, and media and monetized youtube channels sympathetic to Ukraine.
Kind of correlates with something I saw here once:

The British will die for honor
The Americans will die for freedom
The Russians will die.
