Vermont falls short on EV Sales as dealers push back against climate rules

BURLINGTON, Vt. - Vermont’s consumers are not buying electric vehicles as fast as the state’s rules require, according to data collected by the Vermont Vehicle Distributors Association.

“We’re between a rock and a hard place, quite frankly,” says Vermont Vehicle and Automotive Distributors Association representative, Matt Cota

To meet goals in Vermont’s Global Warming Solutions Act, the Agency of Natural Resources set standards for the number of electric vehicles that should be on the road by 2035.

“We’re showing exponential growth, but we’re not showing the type of growth as required by law. The law requires 35%, we’re only at 12%” Cota adds.

It’s a similar situation for trucks. According to Lieutenant Governor John Rodgers, there’s even less demand from small businesses to switch to electric.

“Why make them buy something that they can’t afford that won’t do the job? They’ll put Vermont businesses out of business,” says Lieutenant Governor John Rodgers:

Some dealerships and distributors are asking the governor to repeal the rules, or for the legislature to pass laws to delay or get rid of them.

Environmentalists say the auto association and manufacturers are running this campaign to skirt their role in stopping climate change.

“All these misdirections by the automobile dealers association and the fossil fuel industry it’s just a smoke screen for them delaying responsibility,” says Robb Kidd of the Sierra Club.

Vermont is just not Far Left enough. I’m sure Bernie Sanders would agree. Perhaps re-education camps are in order.

Climate idiots are just that... idiots! They just don’t want to admit that electric cars and trucks are unaffordable for most people! Unaffordable and a pain in the a** and can be dangerous.

Wow, you mean even leftist do what’s in their best interests, not that of the almighty state?

Amazing how that works isn’t it?

I detest and hate statements like “the state’s rules require.”

Capricious and extremely arrogant man-made rules that try to cram unwanted things down citizens’ throats without regard for affordability or citizen sovereignty.

That statement just drips “all bow down to the high and mighty, wise, all-knowing STATE!”

Vermont is a cesspool of liberal idiocy. My wife is from Middlebury and we have family in Burlington. They are as conservative as can be and have a circle of like minded friends. Otherwise…

Freezing in the dark, stuck at home or on the side of the road, will be its own kind of brutal re-education camp for those wacky Vermonters. ;-)

Don’t get an EV unless you’re one of the few people in a situation for which it’s practical. That means doing most charging at home, because home power rates are cheaper than roadside power rates. It means driving tons of miles for the gas and oil change savings to offset the extra costs that come with an EV. It means having a second car, a gas car, for the situations an EV won’t do (ie trips up north in the winter, or trips in areas with few fast chargers).

Our EV works well for us, but we meet all of those conditions above.

I somewhat disagree. The real Vermonters are hard working salt of the earth people just like ourselves. Area wise the preponderance of the state is red. The elitist communists and moneyed mini-oligarchs who continue to infiltrate the blue dot cities and universities (think Bernie and his deplorables) are swaying the elections. I’m convinced the election fraud we find everywhere nowadays was birthed in places like Burlington and Montpelier in Vermont and several other state’s filthy Marxist nests.
But the real people of Vermont? As independent and patriotic as they come.

It will get interesting when certain Vermonters are ordered to buy an EV so the bureaucrats can meet their quota.

I’m surprised that EV sales are (apparently) at 12%. If people really understood the problems, 12% sales would probably be a hopeful goal.

I’m trying to figure out if they want to subsidize them or is this a prelude to gutting the law since Biden is no longer in office to throw billions around for electric cars.

Since Vermont’s elected officials were idiotic enough to pass the Global Warming Solutions Act, in order meet the Act’s goals the Vermont legislators can also past another idiotic law requiring every Vermont licensed driver to buy an EV or lose their driver’s license.

There should be no complaints from Vermont drivers since many of them helped elect the legislators who passed the Global Warming Solutions Act.

As they say, “In for a penny, in for a pound.”

Bump.

And without government subsidy, sales will drop in the toilet.

I give Elon Musk a lot of credit, he made the most successful electric car ever produced. This push was a part of the Globalists plan to subject the world. Out in Fly-Over country, nobody is insane enough to want an electric car. The economics to make it work are simply not there. And the fire hazard is a real liability.

Up in Smoke.

You mean communism doesn’t work? ;p

You can have any color you like, so long as it is white.

Centralized planning of technology choices, who could’ve guessed they get it wrong?

Such arrogance. They’ll kill the economy and our standard of living, all while China laughs.
