Justice Dept. discusses dropping corruption charges against NYC Mayor Eric Adams, source say

NEW YORK - Senior Justice Department officials have held discussions with federal prosecutors in Manhattan about the possibility of dropping corruption charges against New York City Mayor Eric Adams, a source familiar with the discussions confirmed to CBS News.

Adams was indicted on five counts of corruption in September, including bribery, conspiracy and campaign finance violations. He has pleaded not guilty on those counts. If he is found guilty, the charges could result in up to 45 years in prison.

The Justice Department did not comment. CBS News has asked reached out to Mayor Adams' office for comment.

There is no indication yet that federal prosecutors in New York who brought the case will drop the charges.

The New York Times was first to report the discussions.

The mayor has long maintained his innocence. He pleaded not guilty when he was first charged last September. Adams is set to face trial in April.

The conversations are a normal part of what happens in a criminal court case, but it's unusual in this instance because it comes after Adams and Donald Trump met in Florida, prior to Trump's inauguration, CBS News New York's Marcia Kramer reported.

Adams said the two had no discussion about a possible pardon or anything else regarding his criminal case.

"To be clear, we did not discuss my legal case, and those who suggest the mayor of the largest city in the nation shouldn't meet with the incoming president to discuss our city's priorities because of inaccurate speculation or because we're from different parties clearly care more about politics than people," Adams said in a statement after that meeting.

I want to like him because he has a brain and is no less conservative than a few senators we have...more than them.

But that 9 months on abortionos....I don’t know how he thinks that’s ok!!

And he said he wouldm’t be mayor if he teenage girlfriend (when he was a teen) had their baby.

That’s disgusting.

I want to like him.

The compromise is I’ll pray for him...that he sees the light.

i’m no moralist..i’m a disaster of sins!!

But...come on man.

It was obvious RACISM by Biden’s WHITE PROSECUTORS. Now that we have a president who actually cares about minorities, it is time to right this INJUSTICE.

“If it was lawfare, I hope it’s completely dropped.”

They went after him because he came out publicly to bash Biden over the dumping of Illegals. He was on Tucker, apparently the huge sin that he did was accept a seat upgrade on a flight to Turkey.

Tucker pointed out that accepting ‘gifts’ like that was common practice in DC, but never gets looked at, until now.

Trump did say at the Alfred E. Smith Dinner (that Kamala skipped) that he thought Adams “was gonna be ok”. He was making a point about lawfare in general but may have also known quite a bit more about what was going on behind the scenes than we do.

If I were POTUs I’d extract a price from Adams. Not personal, just politics. It’s a nasty business.

At least he didn’t try to hide the teen abortion. Lord, show him your will about the sin of abortion. It bothers me that our first Lady is pro choice. I have compassion on women who have had abortions, then come to their senses and regret that choice. It would be hard to forgive yourself for it, IMHO.

It was almost certainly lawfare because the indictments surfaced very shortly after Adams turned on the Biden regime over the southern invasion.

Question is, can he get re-elected?

It would get great to have a MAGA mayor of NYC, even though he’s faking it.

Trump partly owes 3 Southern governors for his election: Abbott (TX), DeSantis (FL) and Ducey (AZ) who made immigration a national issue by busing illegals to northern states. Having many illegals in those states pushed some cities to declare themselves sanctuary cities and redirected money to provide for the illegals. This made voters turned against them.

Maybe he’ll shape up. It would be good to have a “useful idiot” during deportations and for a large blue city mayor that is beholden to Trump.

He's an ex-cop who knows the street. He's not a stock broker or CEO of Megacorp.

If it was lawfare, I hope it’s completely dropped.

Something is strange when the Mayor complains about the cost of Illegals flooding NYC and then Biden DOJ indicts on September 25th and Trump DOJ reports charges maybe dropped just nine days into office. Nothing screams political abuse of the situation, yet the Libs’ claim Trump will abuse his office to get even with his political enemies and those not following The Party Line… 🧐

I don’t want to see Adams cleared of any charges. He is the main one behind trying to deprive NYC municipal employees of their Medicare benefits, which has been city law for 50 years. I want him embarrassed and GONE.

When you feed the wildlife, that should be feeding themselves, you create addicted monsters that will become aggressive if the food isn’t provided, or even if not at the expected time.
But, the addiction is a trap, no matter how bold the addicted ones become, because it makes the animals easier to confine, move, control, and even to be disposed of. In time the formerly free animals grow ever more domesticated, until they are fully exploitable and lose the ability to fend for themselves.

That’s the thing about government benefits... it has the same effect on humans as feeding has on animals.
